A-Level English Literature

OCR ‐ A Level

The course introduces students to the critical and theoretical study of literary texts. From poetry, to Shakespeare, to drama, to novels, students will study a wealth of texts through the lens of historicism to explore character, plot, themes and develop key skills and independent study.
Over the course of the two years, students will be expected to write both analytically and critically about texts from a wealth of contexts, giving insightful meanings and interpretations that relate not only to the text itself but also the world in which it was published. Both exam papers ask students to
read different styles of texts from a range of authors and use the skills developed to identify and interpret meaning and authorial methods within extracts and whole texts.
