Careers Programme Information

Our Approach

Students at Codsall Community High School have opportunities to be involved in an extensive, nationally accredited awards programme.  In 2017, the school was awarded The Quality in Careers Standard national quality award for its careers education, advice, promotion and delivery of work related learning, one of the few schools in Staffordshire with this prestigious award.

Our careers service informs and advises, providing guidance and inspiration for students’ next steps in education, training, work placements and apprenticeship opportunities.

Students in Years 10 and 12 benefit from our work experience programme in the Summer Term which allows them to build useful skills that cannot be taught in the classroom environment as well as helping to guide them in choosing the right sector to work in.

There are many careers advice opportunities available to students throughout the school year – from a host of college and university presentations and visits to the Skills Show, RAF STEM Roadshow and JLR site visits to our annual employability skills day and careers fayre attended by exhibitors such as JLR, UTC Aerospace, The Royal Navy, Staffs Police, The Royal Air Force and local colleges and universities; providing students with a wide range of advice on further education and vocations available to them.

We are also part of the Speaker for Schools programme which provides our students with the opportunity to meet with leading, influential figures from all industries and backgrounds, who share their experiences, inspiration and insights.

YEAR 10 & 12 WORK EXPERIENCE 2022-23

As part of our career’s curriculum at Codsall High School all of our Year 10 and Year 12 students, without exception, are expected to attend a work experience placement. We believe that it is important that young people have the opportunity to get an insight into the work place, this should be preferably linked to their intended career path but not essential.

All placements are for one week, in this academic year. The dates are:

Year 10 Work Experience dates: Monday 26th June – Friday 30th June 2023

Year 12 Work Experience dates: Monday 3rd July – Friday 7th July 2023

Essential Work Experience Documentation

Year 10 Work Experience Letter 2023

Year 10 WEX Health & Safety Form 2022-23

Year 12 Work Experience Letter 2023

Year 12 WEX Health & Safety Form 2023

Year 10 Employability Skills Day

Our annual, Year 10 Mock Interview and Employability Skills Day, will be held on Tuesday 4th July 2023

As part of our employment and work-related learning programme, all Year 10 students will be participating in a mock interview and employability skills day to help prepare them for life outside of school.

During the day all students will work their way around 8 employability works shops.

All students are transferred from school by coach to RAF Museum Cosford to take part in this event.

To make this event successful, we have to engage with and secure over 50 volunteers from local organisations, colleges and universities to come along to RAF Museum Cosford to conduct interviews and facilitate workshops.

Students are prepared for this event through, assemblies, Tutor time and PSHEE lessons.
