Careers at Codsall High

In September we have launched our Unifrog, online careers platform to new Y9 students. Students have had dedicated tuition sessions during PSHHE lessons on how to get the best out of the platform. Students have full access to a phenomenal amount of careers information and pathways, 24/7.

All Y10 students should now be sourcing their work experience placements. Their work experience assembly has already taken place, and relevant paperwork handed to them. If students or parent/ carers need more information, that isn’t readily available on our school website contact Mrs Alexiou in student services.

Careers assemblies have taken place with all year groups to let them know what to expect from the careers team here at Codsall High.

Those Year 11 students not staying on here at Codsall High for Sixth form, and are looking at going to college, should already be looking at college websites and applying for their chosen courses, applications are open now.

Those students looking for apprenticeships should be registered with an apprenticeship website to get information on local market information (LMI) and what apprenticeships are available in your local area follow the, careers links and resources link o our school website.

If any Y11 students would like support with applying to college or registering for an apprenticeship, go along to student services and speak with Mrs Higgins
Our level 6 careers advisor Jackie Flint is now on site, if any Y11 student would like to request an appointment please come along to student services. She will be arranging one to one appointments throughout the year.

Epic Games

On Wednesday 13th October, 17 students from Year 9 and 10 were involved in the Epic Games Event

Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Careers Hub hosted an online session via Teams, delivered by Mark Flanagan from EPIC Games, makers of games including Fortnite, to talk about his journey and careers in animation and gaming.
The session covered:

• Introduction to Epic Games
• UE5
• Virtual Production
• Animation
• Metahuman Creator
• The metaverse

Dr Willard Wigan MBE – Inspirational Speaker

On 20th October Dr Wigan gave an inspirational talk to Years 9, 10 and 11 students, explaining to them how he became involved in creating miniature sculptures. He showed examples of his work and the students viewed a miniature model of Pinocchio through a microscope. His motivational speech was about following your goals and achieving your personal best. Dr Wigan also viewed GCSE student’s work and we are looking forward to working with him again in the near future.
Dr Wigan was born in Wednesfield and is famous for being the creator of the world’s smallest handmade sculptures and is a Guinness world record holder.
On 20th October Dr Willard Wigan gave inspirational talks to all Y9, 19 and 11 students.

Year 12 and 13 Visit to Birmingham Library

On Wednesday 3rd of November, a mixture of year 12 and 13 students, studying English, went on a visit to Birmingham Library. They were shown, how the use of reference libraries can support them with Further Education choices.

Year 13 Business Visit to Warner Bros Studios London, The Making of Harry Potter

Wednesday 24th November 2021, 21, Year 13 students in Business to support their work on the units they are currently studying in lessons.

During the morning, students attended a seminar lesson on Movie Marketing and carried out an activity during the seminar. Then students were given the opportunity to have a studio tour on the making of Harry Potter.
